Thursday, January 26th11pm: DJ O.J. Xray Eyeballs
O.J. San Felipe got his start DJing fifteen years ago, driving around the Bay Area in a pickup truck with turntables, bass cabinets, truss bars, and Christmas lights. From these humble beginnings, O.J. has established himself as a go-to DJ in both his the west coast and his adopted borough of Brooklyn, where he plays guitar and sings in the band Xray Eyeballs.
His reputation is built on his ability to mix and blend almost any genre of music seamlessly, quickly jumping from hip-hop to punk to disco to electro to post-punk to new wave, depending on the scene. Familiar hits get tossed in with obscurities from Grauzone’s "Eisbar," to Malaria’s "Thrash Me," to Lydia Lunch’s "Atomic Bongos," to Incredible Bongo Band’s "Apache," to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s "Posse's on Broadway," 2 Live Crew’s "Throw that D," to Kraftwerk’s "Numbers.”
O.J.’s NYC exploits have found him on the decks at Santos Party House, South Street Seaport Beergarden, Glasslands, Luxx in the electro-clash days, Lit way back when, the Hole when it was the infamous Hole, Happy Endings when you actually got happy endings, Motor City Bar, Home Sweet Home, Cakeshop, parties for JellyNYC and MishkaNYC and after-parties for The Raveonettes and The Oh Sees. Additionally, O.J. has toured around Italy, Germany, London, Spain and France where, often mistaken for one of the Invisible Skratch Piklz, he would scratch and cut it up so as not to disappoint. It will definitely be a dance party wherever he gets on the decks.
